Isis was turning to go back into the woods when something caught her eye, a dog. It was wildly barking and running erratically. The dog seemed familiar to Isis, it was a German Shepherd; Danny. That was Jeannie's house.
Without a second thought, Isis darted out of the woods towards Jeannie's house. Danny immediately greeted Isis and quickly led her into the house.
Once inside, the house was neat and organized, everything had a place and everything was in its place. Danny dragged Isis along through the home until she saw Jeannie lying on the floor of the kitchen. Danny whimpered.
âMs. Jeannie!â Isis held Jeannieâs weathered hand, âHere, let me help you. What happened? Don't you have somebody here to help you?â Isis helped Jeannie back to her feet.
Jeannie dusted herself off and found her way to a nearby chair, âYes dear, I'm fine. Just my old age showing through. Good thing you found me. Nobody would have known I was lying here until the boy up the road, who cuts the grass, realized I wasn't paying him.â Jeannie held Isis's hand, âThank you Isis, but how did you find me here?â
âWell, it's a long story, to say the least,â Isis looked through the kitchen window, looking back at the woods.
âAnother story to tell? That reminds me, I promised to tell you my story didn't I?â smiled Jeannie.
Isis twisted the loose strand of her hair, âActually, I thought that I had to explain myself before I had the opportunity to hear your story...â she trailed off.
âI shouldn't have tried to force you to tell me your life story, besides it probably turns you into a tangled ball of crazy, and Lord knows I don't want that unless you decide you ever want to talk about it,â Isis answered with silence. She reached for Danny and scratched his ears. âI can take a hint,â continued Jeannie. âI wouldn't tell a soul about my little tragedy for a year,â Jeannie stood and began to walk across the room, without accepting Danny's guidance.
Immediately, Isis leaped to Jeannie's side, âDon't you figure it would be better for you if you got someone out here to help you?â Jeannie continued down a hallway and stopped in front of a door midway down the hall.
âThis was my sister's room, she was the one who helped me around, but now itâs just me and Danny,â stated Jeannie as she continued down to the end of the hallway. She turned the doorknob and walked in the room. Isis stopped in the doorway. âWell, are you going to follow me in here?â
âI don't want to over stay my welcome, Ms. Jeannie, and I certainly don't want you to reopen old scars...â Isis lingered, nervously turning her golden locks.
âIsis dear, you helped me out today, and I feel that I should return the favor. I know that all you really need to do is to talk, or at least listen,â Jeannie again invited Isis into the room, âI won't try to get you to lay your heart open here in front of me.
